From a series on the art market!
In 2004, months before the first art market got started, I was busy crunching numbers, struggling with a “press release” and mapping out the market space that Kaplan’s Ben-Hur gave us to use for the market.
Graphics, writing and figuring were easy, but I wanted a photograph. It’s not easy taking a picture of something that hasn’t happened yet. I found a photo of a market place in Paris, and staged a photo session to insert myself and Carolyn (I was married then!) into the Parisian market.
It worked! And thus the first art market photo was a fake!
Unfortunately, I have no photos of the first market that took place that March 2004. By April though, I must have realized my mistake and have a few. I collected other fun photos to use on the first website that launched later that year.
