My name is Kyla Stanford and I began CORE Art Studio about 4 years ago after teaching art for 13 years. My desire is to create Christian art that doesn’t necessarily look “Christian” but is highly rooted in Scripture. Besides verses from the Bible, I get inspiration from life experiences, nature and music. I dabble mostly in painting, collage and drawing to create my works and then blog about them on my website. My works are meant to bring hope, healing, joy and inspiration to look into Scripture on your own.
Ksenia Annis was born in the capital of Soviet Russia, Moscow. The experience of the incredibly rich Russian culture crushed under the weight of an oppressive political system formed her esthetic and artistic principles. With limited options available to creative people under the communist rule, Ksenia chose architecture as the outlet for her artistic talents. In Moscow Architectural Institute she received an education that included not only technical subjects but also extensive courses on drawing, painting, sculpture and history of art. After graduation, while working in various design firms, Ksenia devoted her free time to travelling to various European countries and the US to see masterpieces of architecture and fine art.
Architecture was both her creative outlet and financial lifeline after moving to the US early this century. However, the creative constraints of the profession and the soul-crushing nature of office life convinced Ksenia to pursue her true calling full time in 2008. As principal artist and owner of Tummy Rubb Studio she now devotes all of her time to traditional and digital visual art, working in acrylic, gouache and watercolor, as well as sculpture. Her focus is a whimsical interpretation of the world, which really shines in her paintings and illustrations for books, the first of which was published in 2015 on Amazon. Ksenia participates in regional and national judged shows and competitions, receiving awards recently with the Woodlands Art League and Watercolor Society of Houston. She was recently chosen as one of three finalists for a community inspired mural to be placed in a new Kroger grocery store in a contest organized by Houston Arts Alliance. Ksenia’s love of bears, who are prominently featured in Russian folk and fairy tales, inspired her sketch that appears on the Netflix envelope below. Hers was one of five winning designs that appeared on their DVD mailers throughout fall of 2016.To see more of Ksenia’ work, please visit her online store at www.tummyrubb.com.
She regularly posts on Facebook/tummyrubb and Instagram/tummyrubbstudio www.tummyrubb.com
I’m a quad amputee that teaches painting classes. I love landscapes, florals and abstract expressionist work. I’ve sold hundreds of paintings and I love people! katypaintsnow.com
I paint with alcohol ink on tiles or yupo paper. AI is a fun and colorful medium! It only works on non-porous surfaces, and is also very unpredictable because it easily spreads and blurs and drips! But that is the beauty of it and also its unusual poetry. Although it is hard to “paint” with alcohol ink in the proper way, with brushes, it can be done, often with fun, and non-traditional results. But in addition to painting with brushes, I also let the ink drip, run, drizzle, or I spray it with 91% alcohol to further “mess with it!” It is fun and very striking to look at. www.ilovealcoholink.imagekind.com
I am an empty-nester who discovered alcohol ink out of boredom! I have been a singer for years, and that was my artistic outlet. But although I still love almost all kinds of music, I needed a new medium to express myself. I discovered alcohol ink online, and loved the look of it. And it is a fun thing to experiment with—so I hope people like my experiments!
I would describe my work as representational. I paint the people, creatures and landscape around me and that remind me of my rich Texas history. I enjoy painting in acrylic, oil, watercolor, and mixed media…it depends on my mood! I have more ideas than there are hours in a day so my work is always evolving, changing but will always tell my story. I enjoy discussing particular pieces and sharing the story behind each piece! Be sure to stop by my booth and we can have a chat!
I am a Native Texan, 5th generation Houstonian with a rich family history in the Houston, Heights and Galveston areas. My most recent work is inspired by my life! I paint the animals, gardens and people that I see everyday. I paint out of my studio in Kingwood, Texas. If you would like to visit my studio or discuss commissioning a personal, custom piece of art for your home I would love to talk with you!
I love to paint and that is what I do now. My paintings reflect my life and God’s creation. I render many coastal themed pieces, but also love animals and people. My goal is to reflect the personality of my subjects or the character and charm of objects. Acrylics are my go paint for smaller pieces, but I also use oils.
A photographer and mixed media artist, Vena Ashley calls her unusual technique photographic mixed media. Her images have a rustic quality and though are recent, many have a timeless quality.
After graduating from Sam Houston State in 2006 with a bachelor of fine arts degree in advertising graphic design and photography, Ashley worked as a graphic designer until October 2013. She then decided to finally take the first step at being a working artist and has been showing and producing art ever since.
Ashley has had a camera in hand ever since she first knew what a camera was. By using art and photography as a means to document the world around her, she allows her viewers to see things how she sees them — things that sometimes are overlooked. This exploration of the overlooked helps Ashley engage more deeply in her own life. She views her art as self-expression and says that everyone takes and feels something different when they look at a piece of her art.
Her most popular works are a series taken in France and Luxembourg of city streets, cafes and the countryside. The 7-step process of transferring her images to wood and metal, take the viewer to another time and place.
Currently I am generating abstract, expressionist paintings using primarily acrylics as my tool of experimentation. Toss a Pop Art influence into the mix to round out what impacts my style. Mixed media is an increasing influence with many works incorporating plaster, copper wire, organic elements – sand, salt, rock, glass as well as print media. A few even include a favourite old shirt to worn to wear again. My art is diverse in subject and is extremely colorful and textural. It should provoke more than one sense in you. 832-248-8486 eugenejohnhughes.com
My artwork derives from an overwhelming need to visually translate what I have seen or read, experienced or witnessed over a complex lifetime to date. Emotion. Religion. Family. Friends. Past, present, estranged or already gone. Today I see with a clean internal eye. A soul. I see purple in nearly everything. I understand. For the first time, all is finally out of myself and into a tangible visual, hold it in my hand form. Using color and texture, paint and canvas, and other elements, I can clearly execute and therefore share my experience. This is integral to my work. The introvert turned inside out. Revelation. This is the journey I was meant to take and it has just begun. My artwork allows you to participate with me along the way.
