I work in egg tempera, acrylic
Martin will be painting live near the Market booth!
Egg tempera was the primary painting medium for nearly every painter in the European Medieval and Early Renaissance period up to 1500. For example, every surviving panel painting by Michelangelo is egg tempera. Egg tempera, is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder medium, usually glutinous material such as egg yolk. Tempera paintings are very long-lasting, and egg tempera was a primary method of painting until after 1500 when it was superseded by the invention of oil painting. I use egg tempera because it is water soluble like acrylic, it is very fast drying and — in my opinion — it has the lustre of oil without the mess.
We are Houston’s first production craft cidery! We blend the best of the Pacific Northwest with southern soul.
I am a visual and installation artist living and working in the Houston Heights. My art focuses on human interaction and individual identity. I draw my inspiration from my experiences and observations of community. I am interested in representing our interactions with others, specifically strangers. I explore the moments in a relationship where our impressions about others and our place in the community are forming. I think about identity and empathy. Who are we and how do we portray that to others? How are we seen? I work often from found photographs and materials, drawing inspiration from the images of people who are strangers to me. I layer in collage elements and mixed media figures or abstract mark making. Most of the pieces require you to get close. There are moments of intimacy and recognition within the larger composition. Meditating on my work reflects the process of getting to know someone for the first time.

Harris and
Beauty for Ashes art & décor by Kimberly McCormick
I work primarily in acrylics on canvas with multi layers of joyful, vibrant colors and patterns. I create portraits, figurative work and animals with a touch of whimsy, to bring healing, hope and encouragement. I believe words are powerful and incorporate them either visibly on the surface or under the layers. I typically can’t stop a painting until a clear message is presented and many of my paintings are accompanied with a written word or poem.
