My work is about the spiritual connection found in natural beauty and the temporal quality of our existence as part of nature. It is done in mixed media, acrylic, collage, water media, and at times encaustic. Working in mixed media lends itself to creating a visceral world made with multiple layers, an approach that imbues the work with meaning through the telling of a story and the passing of time in the process. www.carolinez.com
I make hand-felted accessories and wearable art, like scarves, wraps, arm warmers, hats and garments. Every item is hand-made by me. I choose the finest materials like Merino wool, silk, bamboo, yak, camel and other luxury fibers. I use water, soap and fibers to create my hand-made felt. I also make jewelry out of wool and silk fibers, like twisted felted bracelets, chain earrings and necklaces. I like to dye my own fibers and fabrics for one of kind pieces. I also work with raw, unprocessed wool that I source from small farmers. www.takufelt.etsy.comwww.instagram.com/olitaku
My passion is art and my goal is to pursue my dream to become a full-time artist and share my love for art through every piece of art, I create.
My name is Alexandra Quevedo. My friends call me Alex. Born in Monterrey, NL, Mexico, Art has been in my family for many generations. My great uncle, Raul Acevedo was a famous artist in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Art runs through my veins, As a child, I loved drawing and painting portraits for my family and friends. My art is very colorful and painterly. I have also painted murals in several places in Houston and in Mexico (Residential and Commercial). I have been commissioned to paint portraits for a few famous people, one being the international singer Juan Gabriel.
I have won an award in Primer Encuentro de Artist International. After graduating from University of Houston in 2008 with a degree in Fine Arts(Studio Painting), I decided I wanted to share my love for the arts with each student. The best way was to become a teacher, this is when I earned my bilingual and art education certificate.Â
I am a visual and installation artist living and working in the Houston Heights. My art focuses on human interaction and individual identity. I draw my inspiration from my experiences and observations of community. I am interested in representing our interactions with others, specifically strangers. I explore the moments in a relationship where our impressions about others and our place in the community are forming. I think about identity and empathy. Who are we and how do we portray that to others? How are we seen? I work often from found photographs and materials, drawing inspiration from the images of people who are strangers to me. I layer in collage elements and mixed media figures or abstract mark making. Most of the pieces require you to get close. There are moments of intimacy and recognition within the larger composition. Meditating on my work reflects the process of getting to know someone for the first time.
My paintings are all dimensional. I use cut bowling pins, tennis racquets, PVC pipe, and any other materials found in construction, nature, or your junk drawer to build out from the canvas.
I create abstract acrylic paintings on board, canvas and other materials using recycled and repurposed materials from my garage, house, and junk drawer. I have a passion for recovering and reusing materials from my home construction projects (my wife has an extensive honey-do list for me, especially since I am recently retired). My work is colorful, dimensional, eye-catching, and dynamic. facebook.com/Art-by-Butterartbybutter.com
I create paintings varying from landscapes of local vistas and my travels as well as abstract work. I like to explore the intersection of chaos and order in the world, and a common characteristic through all my artwork is a use of vibrant colors and light.
