Tiffany Nesbit is a New Orleans artist, now working in Houston. Her studio practice is heavily influenced by both walks in the wilderness and urban areas of the southern states. She uses high fired ceramics, mixed media collage, ropes, and various weathered materials in her work. Her pottery describes the color pallets, plantlife and tropical bayou landscapes, including the creatures in them. I am an abstract artist using fluid brush strokes, sprays or pours to create one of a kind works of art on canvas. I don’t paint for critics or the masses but for myself. I create because I feel—it’s as simple as that. I share because it connects with my audience. Everyone is going through something. So, each painting resonates in its own way. Painting expresses what words can’t say. Pain, joy, and everything in between flow through the hues that transform my canvases. When you match that with natural light or innovative lighting fixtures, you bring your home or office to life with both color and emotion.
Art is a moment, a fleeting feeling. It’s like capturing lightning in a bottle. The moment the inspiration is gone, you can’t force it back or express it artistically.
I have a passion for upcycling old materials to create colorful and fun dimensional art. I use musical instruments, antique clocks, tennis rackets, and other materials to create abstract faces and characters.
Everything I make is an original piece. My letters and words are assembled using junk drawer and garage sale finds. My vinyl paintings use vintage records that evoke nostalgic feelings. My abstract landscapes are from travel photos, mostly from national parks. Follow my artwork on Instagram.
The objects and natural elements that surround us each day connect us to our lives and the people we share them with. My work is an ongoing exploration of my fascination with our ever-changing skies, the native plants and landscape below them, and still life that shows how we experience these natural elements on a more intimate level by incorporating them into our private spaces. I paint in oil using a mixture of application materials including synthetic and hog hair brushes, dry rags, and a range of palette knives.
My art is primarily oil on canvas, occasionally including collage with Japanese rice paper for texture and added interest. My impasto brushwork and often energetic hues are balanced by a minimalist composition and limited palette.
As a studio artist, I have the freedom to adjust colors and composition of ordinary landscapes with unusual colors and styles.
I’m calling this first painting of 2025, Easy Landing, finished! I don’t know what it is about the sound of waves, the smell of salt air and cry of seagulls that lift my spirit and calm my soul. My love for painting seascapes seems to grow with each finished piece so look for more to come.
