I’m a US-based artist best recognized for my surrealism, uplifting acrylic paintings. Animals and chess pieces are alive in my paintings. Mylar balloons are used by the characters to travel and live their lives; everything that would typically occur on the ground occurs while they are in the air. They travel through portals, and there are clocks of all sizes and forms everywhere, encircled by clouds of all hues.
Situations in my daily life and how I respond to them have an impact on me. All of the unsaid sensations and emotions that my subconscious contains are released through my paintings. There are elements of melancholy, joy, support, remembering, and attentiveness in every detail of my paintings.
In this fast-paced, hectic environment. I want my paintings to make people smile, pique their interest, and give them time to stop and appreciate my work. In conclusion, I want to improve people’s lives, one painting at a time.
Growing up in The Woodlands area, I am a proud Texan. I find joy in expressing the beauty of nature and creation through my abstract impressionist floral art. My hope is that each brushstroke brings vibrant life to every environment. I’m happily married to my best friend, Jon, and together, we share a beautiful life with our two amazing children and a cherished granddaughter.
My passion for creative arts ignited at the age of 4, and it has remained unwavering over the years. Although my career in visual management took various forms, my heart persistently whispered, ‘It’s time for change. A pivotal moment of growth, healing, and revelation led me to embrace my true calling as an artist. In recent years, I’ve rekindled my love for painting, delighting in transforming blank white canvases into blossoming florals.
BEHIND THE ART
Why do I paint Flowers? I love the natural free spirit of a flower & how it is in nature, their ability to thrive anywhere, under any circumstances, while exuding exquisite beauty. In my paintings, I aim to convey the essence of growth and freedom that they symbolize. My hope is that viewers of my art feel this freedom.
As I create my floral paintings, I draw inspiration from the various stages of a flower’s growth transformation. From the vivid and fresh hues during blossoming to the gradual shift toward deep & rich colors as they gracefully fade. Using acrylic paint as my preferred medium, I layer colors and apply spontaneous brushstrokes to capture the essence of these beautiful moments.
Penny’s endless fascination with gemstones has inspired her to incorporate these artworks from Mother Nature into her own art. She loves experimenting and combining metal and stone in novel and unexpected ways to create one-of-a-kind, rustic pieces that have that special soulful feel that only handmade treasures can provide. Penny infuses a bit of her heart and soul into each piece in the hopes that her clients will sense the love that goes into each one and find a connection with the pieces that called to them.
“I strive to create jewelry that brings to its wearers confidence, joy, and the courage to embrace authenticity, and to share their uniqueness with the world.”
In creating my pieces, I want viewers to feel them as much as they see them. I combine realistic images with the elemental use of color and texture. I strive to induce a feeling that renders words somewhat inadequate.
I’m an old hippie whose jewelry making began 20 years ago when on a dare my wife signed me up for a beginner beading class at a local bead shop. I was hooked pretty quickly and began making women’s jewelry using silver, stone and crystal beads and constantly learning techniques to make better pieces. While beading is still a passion, most of my work now is with chain and wire wrap.
Five years ago on yet another dare, I began making rings from old silver coins. I don’t cut or solder the coins. One coin makes one ring and the detail from both sides of the coin is preserved and visible. I fell in love with working metal, and am constantly learning new techniques and exploring the boundaries of turning old coins into cool jewelry. Taking something like a 100-year-old coin and turning it into something it was never intended to be has been an unbelievably rewarding journey, and I love that the possibilities are endless.
