Harris and Helane are a husband and wife team of artisan turners based in Houston, Texas, creating hand-turned wood and ceramic decor; exploring and sharing our passion for artisan crafts while blending nature, art and utility.
I work primarily in acrylics on canvas with multi layers of joyful, vibrant colors and patterns. I create portraits, figurative work and animals with a touch of whimsy, to bring healing, hope and encouragement. I believe words are powerful and incorporate them either visibly on the surface or under the layers. I typically can’t stop a painting until a clear message is presented and many of my paintings are accompanied with a written word or poem.
I am an abstract artist using fluid brush strokes, sprays or pours to create one of a kind works of art on canvas. I don’t paint for critics or the masses but for myself. I create because I feel—it’s as simple as that. I share because it connects with my audience. Everyone is going through something. So, each painting resonates in its own way. Painting expresses what words can’t say. Pain, joy, and everything in between flow through the hues that transform my canvases. When you match that with natural light or innovative lighting fixtures, you bring your home or office to life with both color and emotion.
Art is a moment, a fleeting feeling. It’s like capturing lightning in a bottle. The moment the inspiration is gone, you can’t force it back or express it artistically.
I create abstract paintings and mixed media work. My abstract style is emergent: I let the painting take me where it wants to go. Much of my mixed media work are collages using acrylic mediums and interesting papers. The collages range from a mosaic-like style with faces and/or symbols to abstract to landscapes. A current emphasis in my mosaic work is stylized faces to celebrate racial diversity.
I create paintings varying from landscapes of local vistas and my travels as well as abstract work. I like to explore the intersection of chaos and order in the world, and a common characteristic through all my artwork is a use of vibrant colors and light.
I paint colorful still life and florals, working primarily in oils. My design background comes through in my love of graphic patterns, dynamic compositions, and bold colors. Painting, for me, is all about having fun! I am endlessly fascinated by the way light brings life and form to objects, and how shadows bring life to a composition. www.kerryhastingshogan.com@khastingshoganartfacebook.com/khastingshoganart/
Multimedia 2D and 3D abstract constructions. “Reconstruction” is a word I’ve used to describe my style. As a child I was always taking things apart and rearranging them to suit my sensibility.” My education in architecture and furniture design come through in my art.
