I am a Houston-based photographer specializing in “found art” – unusual views on everyday objects and locations – with a scavenger aesthetic that is evident both in my subject matter and my framing presentations. Although photography is far and away my primary medium, I also display a number of mixed media and textile repurposed creations. To me, scavenging is the art of nostalgia in a disposable world! I love to paint and that is what I do now. My paintings reflect my life and God’s creation. I render many coastal themed pieces, but also love animals and people. My goal is to reflect the personality of my subjects or the character and charm of objects. Acrylics are my go paint for smaller pieces, but I also use oils.
My medium is a varied mix of tiny shells, scraps of paper, slivers of glass, thick gel mediums, crusted gouache additives, creamy acrylic and globs of oil paints, traces of watercolor and melted wax crayons combined with hardened enamels and carefully chosen 14kt gold flake.
Every piece is original and every creation is an unpredictable surprise! I create with a clear heart, no expectations. The materials combined together create a resist-like reaction and the results are different every time…..each piece is genuinely unique and original!
I’m passionate about living the artful life. I have a great appreciation for nature and animals,20% of all sales goes to S.N.A.P. (Spay and Neuter Assistance Program) for animals. I am also an active advocate for the “Adopt Don’t Shop!” movement which means finding forever homes for our homeless furry friends.
My art can range from bold bright colors to dark tones. I enjoy subject matter from landscapes to mysterious women. I enjoy using soft strokes or a textured look all in one painting. @cheriesalinas96 361-235-9153
Cherie Salinas resides in Katy, Texas with her husband, son, and three dogs. She is a self-taught artist who enjoys multiple mediums such as oil, acrylic, and even melting crayons on canvas.
Her latest works explore the human form and the wonderful things that God has made such as animals or luscious fruit.
Her last solo show was at Piola downtown Houston which ran January to March of this year.
Cherie is influenced by Monet’s mixing colors on the canvas and the texture Van Gough achieved.
This artist’s work runs the gamut of emotions from quiet peacefulness to frail darkness.
“I enjoy hearing how each person sees art differently. One person sees a sunrise, the other sees a sunset.” Salinas explained.

My work is typical, typical of life. We form ideas. We have goals in mind. We visualize the final results and work towards our visions. Along the way, we encounter unexpected twists and turns. So we adjust, we learn, and move forward. Each painting is like this for me. Doors open and close during the process, affecting my final product a great deal. Every painting has what I once perceived to be challenges to my original vision. These moments are tough to push through. However, I’ve learned to accept them as doors to unforeseen possibilities. The challenge is to remain open, accepting them as doors of opportunity to paint my way through. As I work through, visions beyond my original thoughts emerge. Magical moments, leading me through the misty veil and into wonderful encounters of understanding and clarity. My paintings show me the way, I’m along for the ride, reflective of life in many ways. I work in Acrylics and in oils, depending on the effect I’m in search of.
Ellington paints in acrylic, with much water and sometimes sand. Her painting is in an impressionistic style with techniques that feel more like carving. “It has been said that painting is half-way between sculpting and drawing,” she says. “It is a wonderful experience.”
“My goal is to bring the beauty of plants, trees and other natural places to my artwork so that I can share that with others. My hope is that my art might help another person connect with the natural world so that he or she can appreciate the beauty that surrounds us every day. I use a variety of techniques and media to bring my work to life!” ~Angie Spears
