Coming from an artistic family I’ve always had a knack for drawing and have occasionally dabbled with other artistic pursuits throughout my life. My formal education and career path, however, focused on biology and environmental education, with a gradual shift from managing educational programming to producing publications. While those skill sets remain in my toolbox, I’ve recently begun taking classes at MFAH’s Glassell Studio School and am now focused on my education and development as a fine artist.
Many of my early works were bound up in representing what IS…highly realistic representations of physical objects, animals, plants, and people. Recently I’ve worked to expand my horizons, loosening up in both style and ideation. Currently, my works are often nature-inspired, sometimes figurative and realistic, other times abstract or conceptual. I’m an emerging artist, learning, experimenting, and exploring the realm of what is possible and unbound by adherence to any particular media, technique, or subject matter. Maybe one day I’ll settle in to a marketable artistic “brand” but for now, I thrive on variety.
Olga Tarasova is a skilled feltmaker, fiber artist, and textile designer who creates hand-felted accessories and wearable art. Her unique pieces—scarves, wraps, arm warmers, hats, and garments—are meticulously handcrafted using the finest materials, including Merino wool, silk, bamboo, yak, camel, and other luxury fibers. With water, soap, and fibers, she transforms raw materials into stunning felt creations. Olga also designs jewelry from wool and silk fibers, such as twisted felted bracelets, chain earrings, and necklaces. Known for her one-of-a-kind pieces, she dyes her own fibers and fabrics and often works with raw, unprocessed wool sourced from small farmers.
Originally from Daugavpils, Latvia ??, Olga is now based in Houston, TX, USA ??, where she works out of Winter St Studios, B255. Visit her during open studios on the second Saturday of each month from 12-5pm.
Handcrafted original designs. Fabrication, wax carving and wire weaving techniques are implemented.

I paint colorful still life and florals, working primarily in oils. My design background comes through in my love of graphic patterns, dynamic compositions, and bold colors. Painting, for me, is all about having fun! I am endlessly fascinated by the way light brings life and form to objects, and how shadows bring life to a composition.

As a studio artist, I have the freedom to adjust colors and composition of ordinary landscapes with unusual colors and styles.
I’m calling this first painting of 2025, Easy Landing, finished! I don’t know what it is about the sound of waves, the smell of salt air and cry of seagulls that lift my spirit and calm my soul. My love for painting seascapes seems to grow with each finished piece so look for more to come.

My work is inspired by the things that inspire me personally, which are many and varied. As a geoscientist, rocks and stones are almost always my main source of inspiration, especially incredibly well-cut stones from independent lapidary artists.
However, design itself is another influence on my pieces. Bringing shapes, textures, and color together in unexpected ways and the desire to bring jewelry away from the body is, currently, a major influence. In addition to the many things and ideas that inspire me, I want my jewelry to evoke quiet refinement and sophistication while being interesting and wearable. To achieve this, I use minimal styling incorporating clean lines, subtle texturing, and careful attention to finish. My work is set apart by the use of tactile design and 3D elements, like texturing flat silver then manipulating it into domes and folds. It’s comfortable and wearable, but still different enough to incite questions like “Where did you get that?”
