I love objects with multiple personalities- recognizable things that change when incorporated in a piece of artwork. I see that in my work- where antiques and recycled or found objects suggest one thing while the image may suggest another. I love how the layering of encaustic wax reflects the light differently depending on your viewpoint- like water and glass do.
Amy Cantu
Amy began painting over 10 years ago as a hobby. Creating abstract pieces quickly became less of a hobby and more of a passion. She started with acrylic but then transitioned into encaustic and resin. Encaustic is a wax based paint that is melted and painted onto a wooden substrate. Resin is a two part compound that hardens to a clear glossy finish. Paints are added to the resin while it is still in a liquid form then the piece is created before it cures.
