My name is Isabella, and I love art. My mother told me she knew art would be my passion when I was in kindergarten. I would always color inside the lines and was very meticulous in what I drew and how I colored it. She said I was always striving for my art to be perfect. She was right. I love how art makes me feel, but what I really love is seeing how my art makes others feel. I especially love painting flowers because to me they are the prettiest to paint. I know as I grow as an artist my art will grow too. I’m looking forward to taking this first step in making art my career.
NShipula—Creative is owned by Natalie Shipula. I have a degree in fine art from Youngstown State University. My inspiration is drawn from where I grew up and in all of my travels. As a United States Air Force Veteran, it took me some time to finally get on this path of becoming an artist but I finally made it here.
Being a Graphic Designer full time was my lifelong goal, however, I find my passion lies in painting and photography. While I mainly paint watercolors and they are usually on paper, I have been experimenting with some new surfaces. Today, you will find that along with framed pieces, I also have watercolors on wood and metal.
Becoming an artist came with the knowledge that I create a lot of waste. While I am mindful of this, I try to use as much of my materials as possible. When the demand for framed art became apparent, I didn’t want my cost of supplies to raise the price of my art to levels that no one would be able to buy. For the framed pieces, I search for affordable vintage or recycled frames, I reuse mats if they are in good condition, and for my wooden or metal pieces, I search for items that could have another use. I do all my own framing, custom-cut all the mats, and fix/prep all other materials. I am as sustainable as I can be while creating pieces that range in size and price making it so everyone has the opportunity to purchase an original piece of art for their homes.

Seeing beauty in the design and aged patinas of ancient objects, Modern Artifacts looks to juxtapose unique textures with a modern aesthetic. I draw inspiration from my experience working on an archaeology dig in Houston’s Historic Freedmen’s Town, as well as my time as a Curatorial Assistant for the Houston Museum of Natural Science, and the Stone Fort Museum of Nacogdoches.
I received my BFA from Stephen F. Austin State University where I studied a variety of cultural and historical metalworking techniques as well as advanced chemical patination processes, now specializing in creating my own patinas that I paint on with a torch. I work with sold 14K gold and gold filled materials, sterling silver, nu-gold, bronze, copper, and shibuichi and transform the materials into anthropologically inspired contemporary jewelry.
Conflict free raw blue and black diamonds, fossils, geodes, lapis lazuli, buffalo turquoise, and other stones are sprinkled into my work to enhance the minimal yet bold look of the collection.
Using crisp lines and simple geometry as a vehicle to celebrate the beauty of the raw materials in different states, the pieces appear both polished and new, as well as worn and aged. Whether using patina, a sandblaster, or 23K gold leaf, contrasting finishes define my work and give it the graphic quality which lends it its identity.
I am a professionally trained artist having earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Houston. Since then I have continued practicing my craft exploring various styles, materials and techniques creating highly detailed pieces. While my work is diverse both in choice of medium and subject matter, it centers around nature and organic forms.
